Kommunikationssysteme
This course is part of the Bachelor’s curriculum in Computer Science and related study programmes. It covers fundamental concepts of computer networking, including Internet technologies, the OSI and TCP/IP reference models, transmission technologies (such as twisted-pair cables, fibre optics and wireless LAN), the Internet Protocol (IPv4/IPv6), subnetting and routing, transport protocols (TCP and UDP), and application protocols (such as HTTP, SMTP and DNS).
A key feature of the course is its strong practical orientation: In a series of lab exercises, students configure Linux-based systems, analyse network protocols using Wireshark, explore common application services, and design and implement TCP/IP-based networks. The course is offered regularly during the winter term and serves as a foundation for more advanced modules in Computer Science and especially IT security.
