Kryptografie
Cryptography is a key tool in information security and plays a central role in the digital world. In this course, we delve deep into the fascinating world of cryptography, from the beginnings of historical encryption methods to modern, highly secure algorithms that protect our communications today.
Building on basic concepts and an examination of selected historical methods, the focus will first be on what is meant by secure encryption in the first place. Various cryptographic primitives are then introduced, starting with modern encryption schemes, hash functions, message authentication codes through to public-key cryptography with key exchange algorithms, public-key encryption schemes and digital signatures. In order to make the course as practical as possible, many important algorithms are presented and their secure application is explained and investigated in practical exercises.
The course ends with the application of what has been learnt in the form of selected cryptographic security protocols, such as those currently used on the Internet.
The course is aimed specifically at beginners; the necessary mathematical concepts are explained in the lectures using practical examples.
This course for undergraduate students is taught at Kiel University of Applied Sciences from the Winter Semester 2024/25.
