The AutoDrive project brought together an innovative pan-European ecosystem consisting of 61 partners representing leading semiconductor companies, vehicle manufacturers, electronic system integrators, renown research institutes, and SMEs. Key objective was the development of advanced electronic components and systems for autonomous vehicles to provide fail-operational functions using novel architectures with increased reliability to manage and balance complexity, cost, robustness, and flexibility. Safety and security are among biggest challenges of autonomous driving. The AutoDrive partners developed advanced fail-aware, fail-safe, and fail-operational electronic components, systems, and architectures for highly and fully automated driving, providing the implementation of safety in nine demonstrators being evaluated in different cities and countries across Europe. As part of the AutoDrive project, attack scenarios for autonomous vehicles were first identified and analysed. In the spirit of security by design, a blockchain-based authentication procedure was then developed for use in Car-2-X communication.

The FORMUS³IC project focussed on current problems in the field of information technology, including the challenges posed by multi- and many-core systems. The project investigated how these systems can be used in the automotive and avionics sectors. In this project, we analysed scheduling-based attacks on ECUs in vehicles and the use of lightweight cryptographic algorithms to secure in-vehicle communication.
